Skills & Leveling
Overview
- Skills control various aspects of your character’s performance, such as combat, trading, leadership, and crafting.
- Skills gain experience through use.
- The speed of skill gain depends on the number of Focus Points (FP) and Attribute Points (AP) invested.
- Every 25 levels unlocks perks that grant additional bonuses.
Skill Cap
- The soft cap is approximately 330 with 10 attribute points and 5 focus points in a skill.
- The hard cap is 1023.
- You can exceed the soft cap via high XP events (e.g. selling large trade goods) or mods/cheats.
How to Level Each Skill
One-Handed / Two-Handed / Polearm
- Based on damage dealt, especially overkill damage.
- Maximize by fighting at full speed (e.g. mounted sprint attacks).
- Smithing high-damage weapons can help.
Bow / Crossbow / Throwing
- Earn XP through hits, ideally on horseback.
- Headshots and long-range attacks boost XP.
Riding
- Use ranged weapons while mounted for maximum gain.
Athletics
- Fight on foot in tournaments and battles.
Crafting
- Smith high-damage or high-value weapons.
- Completing smithing orders is effective.
- Harpoon javelin heads and mahogany handles are efficient.
Scouting
- Spot hideouts and parties.
- Travel through forests and maintain high-level scouting skill to gain XP passively.
Tactics
- Give effective orders in battle.
- XP gain is based on your troops’ performance under your command.
Roguery
- Pillage caravans and sneak into towns.
- Best XP comes from prison breaks.
Charm
- Vote on kingdom policies or fiefs.
- Successfully barter with nobles.
- Donate high-tier prisoners (rulers, lords).
- Convince nobles to join your faction.
Leadership
- Lead large armies.
- Recruit base-tier troops and upgrade them.
- Rotate troops between garrison and army to repeat upgrades.
Trade
- Buy/sell trade goods in bulk — high profit = high XP.
- Horses, food, wool, and flax are efficient.
Steward
- Assign yourself as Quartermaster.
- Stay in settlements or lead large parties with diverse food types for best morale bonus.
Medicine
- Assign yourself as Surgeon.
- Recruit disposable troops, starve them near fief, then heal.
Engineering
- Build and operate siege engines.
- Damaging enemy engines or walls during sieges earns the most XP.
Education System (Children)
- When your children age, you can guide their development at specific stages.
- Each stage allows you to choose bonuses to attributes and skills.
- On the third page of each education stage, bonuses are semi-random.
- You can reroll these by saving the day before the birthday.
- Children receive more attribute and focus points than wanderers or lords.
Skill Reset
- Visit an Arena Master in any town to reset your own or a companion’s skill points.
